The Brunch Concert was the first of its kind to be held in a Korean university. It was first held in 2009. One of the reasons the Sookmyungian adore this concert is that it is held during the day instead of the evening. Professor Hee Chul Chae (orchestral music) presided over the concert and Professor Kyung Hee Kim conducted the music. The audience was treated to several romantic pieces that matched the mood of autumn.

Sookmyung's orchestra started off the concert with "Overture to Genoveva." Dean Jung-ae Son (College of Music) accompanied the next piece with a memorable 'Piano Concerto in A minor." The audience held its breath as it lost itself in this musical banquet. During intermission, the audience was treated to a brief brunch of sandwiches and coffee. The concert resumed in the afternoon with a 'Concert Piece for Four Horner' performed by our students and the Traumerei Kinderszenen. The first movement of Symphony No.3 adorned the finale of the concert. Calls of encore could be heard throughout the theater and the orchestra obliged them with a final rendition of Brahm's Hungarian Dance.

This concert was prepared by the student of department of instruments and the Sookmyung Philharmonic Orchestra. Students were not only entreated to high quality music, but they were able to become familiar with classical music. Hye-jin Ryu (department of instruments, class of 2010) commented, "Although practice time was limited, the professors and students did their best to create a performance that was worthy of our annual recital." The concert was an outstanding success, selling out all 540 seats.

This concert was open to both the students and public. Dean Son hopes that this concert can become a stepping stone in making classic music a part of the public culture. The Sookmyung Brunch Concert is an event where regular people can come to enjoy music. We look forward to it every year.
