In January, Korean Cultural Institute conducted the Korean Cultural Experience Program that introduced Korean culture and industries for 13 PLU students. PLU students stayed at our University's Sookmyung Professional Center from Jan. 3 to 20, and had various cultural and onsite experiences of Korea's industries.

PLU is a historic private university in Washington, U.S., which cultivates experts in the field of humanities, business management, nursing, etc. According to Korean Cultural Institute, this visit from PLU students took place due to an article reported in the media. As PLU was planning a Korean cultural experience program, Professor Brian Maeng who was able to experience the programs of Korean Cultural Institute's Sookmyeong Cultural Ambassador such as calligraphy experience program contacted the Korean Cultural Institute and requested the program.

On the first day of their visit, they listened to our university's Professor Lee Byeong-jong's lecture on Korean history and industry, and toured Gyeonggokgung Palace and National Museum of Korea. From the 6th, they formed 1:1 or 1:2 groups and participated in cultural experience programs like making traditional masks, learning mask dancing and learning calligraphy, as well as visiting Seoul's major tourist attractions and scenic spots. In addition, Korean Cultural Institute organized an on-site experiential program for them to visit major corporations in Korea such as Samsung Electronics, Naver and Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The PLU students who participated in the program were very impressed. Anika D. Glass said, "I was most impressed with the mask dancing and calligraphy experience." and "I came to love Korean history and culture through various experiences I got from the program."

The spokesman from the Korean Cultural Institute said, "This PLU program was based on many experiences and know-how accumulated through our cultural experience programs with foreigners who continued to visit Korea and our school." and "We will continue to plan more diverse and quality events to emerge as a key institution for cultural exchange.“
