On the 20th of the March, at 11:00 AM, President Sunhye Hwang and the Ambassador of Canada, David Chatterson, entered into a strategic business partnership agreement, while officials from both agencies were present, in the multimedia conference room on the 6th floor of the Administration Building. Through this convention, our university will be the only university institute to participate as a strategic academic partner in the 50th anniversary commemorative year-round event of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korea and Canada.

First of all in mid-May, a Canadian book exhibition is scheduled at the Central Library, along with Canadian Arctic Photography Exhibition and Film Screening by the National Geographic. For 3 months, beginning in September, an exhibition presenting the private collections of the Canadian Ambassador, for the first time to the general public, ‘Colours of Canada,’ will be presented in our university museum. The private collections of the Canadian Ambassador are carefully selected collections by Art Bank, which is the Canadian Diplomatic Department of Trade, and consists of 30 works of art representing Canada, comprised of drawings, sculptures, installations and photographs. Furthermore, our university is planning on a ‘Canada Week,’ where a variety of events will be presented, such as Photography Exhibition in tribute to the Canadian soldiers who took part in the Korean War, as well as women’s leadership seminars.

In particular, with this convention as an opportunity, we anticipate doing our best in regards to the exchange programs with Canadian universities. In October, we plan to take part in the Canadian Education Fair and the Agent Seminar in order to discuss measures to expand the exchange program with Canadian students and to firmly mold our cooperative relationship. Moreover, we plan to actively encourage meetings with major university presidents of Canada, who are scheduled to visit this fall, and host special lectures by high ranking figures in the Canadian political and financial world, as well as scholars.

Swookyung Suh, Director of the International Affairs & Cooperation Center disclosed that “We will do our best to provide a variety of experiences for enrolled university students by stimulating a wide range of exchange in the field of academics, as well as arts and cultures, through business agreements with the Canadian Embassy.”
