Our university’s library received excellent results from the University Library Demonstration Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education.

Last April, the Ministry of Education announced its results for the ‘2017 National University Library Demonstration Evaluation’ based on twenty-five quantitative indexes in four areas over 411 university libraries nationwide. Schools that took part in the assessment were divided into four-year institutions, two/three-year institutions, and graduate schools. Also, they were categorized by size, region, type of establishment and then the position and core competence of the university within the group were analyzed.

According to the statistics, our library scored 219 points, ranking in the top twenty percent, exceeding 185.9 points which is the average score of schools that were categorized to group A (schools with 10,000 students and over) with a four-year curriculum. Moreover, our library’s rank also remained in the top 20 percent even when the category changed to schools with a 4-year curriculum in the capital areas, group A and private schools.

By taking a look at the detailed index we ranked 1st place in the satisfaction research of library users and library website access rate. 3rd place was given in ▲the number of borrowed books per person. Especially, the fact that Sookmyung Women’s University received a high score in the field of staff competency is outstanding,  ▲1st place in a compliance rate of training ordinance per library ▲2nd  place in participation rates of the annual training program per library staff ▲1st  place in the percentage of professional librarian employees. Furthermore, the field of library research and education support such as the number of library use education taken by per graduate and undergraduate student the percentage of participation rates in annual library use education in comparison to the graduate student numbers took part in increasing the overall rank.

Meanwhile, the library offers classes on the library facilities usage all year round and regularly implements ‘Exhibition of Happy Reading in My Life’, ‘Electronic Intelligence Fair’, ‘All-Night Reading Event’ in order to create a library that students would want to visit. Also, the library is putting an effort into remodeling the CC Plaza, launching the PRIME SMART PLAZA, and promoting newly released books written by the Sookmyung professors. The Sookmyung Women’s University library was able to receive the Korea Library Award last year due to these efforts.
