On the 29th of this month, Sookmyung invited Petra Roth, mayor of Frankfurt, who was selected as one of Germany’s major female leaders, to give a special lecture. The lecture, arranged jointly by the Sookmyung General Education Center, Sookmyung Institute for Multicultural Studies and Department of German Language & Culture, was delivered by Mayor Roth under the title: “The Tension and Harmony of Woman with Migrational background in Germany.”

Mayor Roth is the first mayor elected by popular vote and the longest running mayor of Frankfurt. She has her own positive voice on the matter of female migrators and policy on multiculturalism, and she uses this voice in making model administration policies.

She introduced her experience in overcoming a disadvantageous political situation for female politicians. Frankfurt is currently led by two female leaders: Mayor Roth of the Christian Democratic Union and Vice Mayor Jutta Ebeling of the Greens. Mayor Roth asked Sookmyung students to create their own female leadership, mentioning that “since women tend to fight in a way that is less selfish, form fewer ideological barriers, and have special social abilities to collaborate more, they have considerably strong leadership qualities.”
