Extend a warm helping hand to Senegal

Our university will donate school supplies, computer, other supplies as well as education center to Senegal. We expanded a community contribution to the territory through the community global service activity, and also through this supplies support the way of community service is diversifying.

A background from this support to the education supplies goes back to the time when Youngsil Han the president visited to Senegal. With an invitation of Senegal Government, last June from the day of 20th for 4days she visited the capital city Dakar, and she had interview with Abdulaye Wade president then visited the University of Gaston Berger, who had interchange agreement with our university, and discussed cooperation interchange plan.

Both universities made an agreement on an article of total exemption for the dispatched students from each universities and of giving benefits through the “Wad president a scholarship” and “the world district headquarter talent scholarship. Han president makes arrangements for interchange and clears out that she will donate 60 computers to the University of Gaston Berger to establish friendly relationship and coorporation between two universities. She valued highly local students’ scholastic spirit even though they have not enough IT equipments.

The group of President Youngsil Han, visited preschool in the University of Gaston Berger and local preschool and saw that students were in lines for waiting for their turn because poor condition of local education they didn’t have enough supplies for the practice of writing. And she feels pitiful for them so they made conclusions to support them regularity, pencil, crayons, 11 different kind etc., 6000 variety of school supplies including 13 computers. The end of each year, our university makes plan to continually support and delivers school supplies to the two kindergartens located in Senegal.

For this time supplies went through Busan port and passed the custom-clearance procedures and departed to Senegal. Amadou Dabo ambassador in Korea, says, “We will plan to have an activity of establishment of Senegal Sookmyung Cultural Administration as well as Asia-Africa research interchange. Through this effort, over the cross the board the vision of Sookmyung Women’s University education will become a reality of upbringing women talent.
