Sookmyung students meet many foreigners from various countries especially during this spring semester.

The number of foreign students increased two and a half times compared to the last year, and the nationality of foreign students got more diversified. Students from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Switch land, the United States of America, Japan and Taiwan, Bangladesh, and Thailand are studying hard to realize their dreams on this Cheongpa hill.

The Development and Cooperation International Affairs Department selected a group of outstanding foreign students via the Global Core Talents Scholarship Program. Especially, many graduates who had studied in Korean Studies at Vietnam National University applied for the program and selected. Retittu jjang, one of the scholarship students said she had happened to see a PR video of Korea and got interested in Korea. She felt that the PR industry of Korea was highly developed, and decided to study the field in our school. After her master’s degree in Public Relations & Advertising, She has a dream to contribute to the PR industry in Vietnam, which is underdeveloped. In addition, she wants to introduce Korea to the Vietnamese and to help foster cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Cathay who majored in English Literature at Life University in Cambodia studies International Cooperation at Graduate School of International Service of Sookmyung Women’s University. She entered our school after we completed an MOU with her university. She is a very warm-hearted person who has volunteered in teaching English to Children and in informing people in her town of the way how they keep themselves healthy.

Her dream after graduating from our school is to run a business on her own. She has been filled with hopes and dreams of working and studying simultaneously.

On the other hand, the increased number of foreign students has brought the wind of change to the campus. Many of foreign students working as interns in the library, museum, Asia Pacific Women''s Information Network Center, Hospitality MBA, Sookmyung Global Leadership Institute, and Sookmyung Cultural Center are frequently observed these days.

They usually translate Korean version of guidelines for those who want to enter our school into their native languages and promote our school on websites which are frequently visited by students of their countries. They have been actively involved in publicity activities of school for foreigners.

Meanwhile, funds for the foreign students, mostly Southeast Asian students who are having financial difficulties, have been raised to support their study in our school so that they can grow as global talents for the future without major problems. Those who spend time in Sookmyung, we believe, they will spread their wings to fly high as significant figures in their home countries as Sookmyung graduates, and the name “Sookmyung” will be widely recognized over the world.
