Open Exhibit Prize-giving Event for Experience of “My Lives in Korea” with Home Language

An open exhibit prize-giving event was held for 2010’s experience of “My Lives in Korea” with home language at Hansangeun Lounge, Centennial Memorial Hall on November 17 last year.

This event was hosted by Research Institute of Asia Women, Sookmyung Women’s University and supported by Nanum Foundation of Foreign Exchange Bank. This event is meaningful by means of availability of filing with native language than Korean for married and immigrated women.

President Young Sil Han said: “Home language is not just a language for the women who have left their homeland but a comfort for them.” “This competition exhibit features writing in native language, which increases pride of the women for their homeland and becomes a way for them to talk about their difficulties during living away from home” The grand prize was awarded to “Bangai Olga” from Russia. Olga married a Korean gentleman who had already a son and a daughter then and she is now living with them and the youngest girl she had with her husband. She was awarded the grand prize for peaceful and real description of her family above the borders and blood relation.

The top prize is awarded to Butihwa (Vietnamese), who delivered acceptance speech that she thought her experience in living in Korea might give some help to foreign women who will marry Korean in the future. Meanwhile, total 33 notes including the prize winning work from the competition exhibit attended by over 280 marriage immigrant women from 13 countries were published on November 15 last year as a casebook “Hope Note written in Korea”.
