Paul Webley, Director and Principal of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, had a special lecture in the Sookmyung Centennial building.

Paul Webley talked mostly about economic psychology of everyday life and explained the correlation between economy and psychology. Professor Webley began his talk by saying, "Psychology is a study drawing a theory from various experiences, but economy is a theoretical study which even objectifies those experiences."He continued explaining various aspects of economic psychology.

Professor Webley pointed out, "human beings are so obsessed with the present that we don''''t contemplate the results of our today''''s behaviors, and sometimes we are too optimistic about our future." He continued, "we all have the mental accounting systems which make us spend our monthly income up to its limit while other accounts still have unspent funds remaining." He added, "we cannot say this kind of our characteristic is abnormal because it is never easy for us to make decisions about murderous matters including economy related matters."

The students who attended the special lecture found it very useful and interesting because the lecture in which Professor Webley explained mental states of usual behaviors in relation of economy was beyond their expectations. They were impressed with his lecture because they didn’t have to think about traditional economic theories such as the labor supply, and laws of supply and demand which force them not to deviate from traditional boundaries of economy.

Paul Webley visited Sookmyung University and is the Principle of SOAS the first university to start teaching Korean in Europe after the Second World War. He is also Co-author of "The Economic Psychology of Everyday Life"which was recently translated and published in Korea.
