The “2021 1st Convergence Project Competition MEIT” was successfully held from June to August, hosted by the student body of the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Department of Electronics Engineering, and Department of IT Engineering and sponsored by the Group Leading Universities with Innovation.

Convergence Project Competition MEIT is a competition in which students who are studying Mechanical Systems, Electronic Engineering, or IT Engineering as a major or a double major form a team with at least two majors to present and implement convergence ideas for evaluation. In consideration of the spread of COVID-19, the entire process of the event was operated non-face-to-face. Starting with the application for participation on June 21st (Mon), the winning team was selected after the preliminary round to review the plan documents and the final presentation of the finalists.

In addition, in the final presentation held on August 23rd (Mon), a total of 6 teams that advanced to the finals showed off their major competency and introduced creative and practical ideas, attracting attention. After the presentation, a panel of judges made up of professors from three departments decided on the following awards, ▲ President’s Award (1 team), ▲ Vice President’s Award (1 team), ▲ Group Leading Universities with Innovation Dean’s Award (1 team), ▲ College of Engineering Dean’s Award (1 team), and ▲ Participation Award (2 teams).

The team that won the President's Award, the first place, was the “Subway for Everyone” Team, which developed a “Subway seat guide system for the visually impaired” using Arduino. The Subway for Everyone team said, “It was great to be able to collaborate with team members from other majors and propose solutions to social problems through the MEIT competition,” and “it was a good opportunity to improve and develop practical skills through discussion with team members while approaching the issues from the perspective of other majors.”

An official from the MEIT Committee, which is a student body of the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Department of Electronics Engineering, and Department of IT Engineering, said, “The student council directly planned the competition to revitalize the networking of the College of Engineering and provide students with an experience of academic convergence,” and “I would like to thank the professors who generously supported the event and the students who enthusiastically participated in the competition.”
