“Look at those adorable snowflakes!”

For the first time in a very long time, the Cheongpa-dong campus was alive with students’ voices on the first day of the first semester of the 2023 school year. Freshmen took photos with the school's official mascot, “Snowflake,” on their first day of school.

At the square in front of the Queen Sunheon Building, Sookmyung Women's University hosted a photo event on March 2 to mark the beginning of the first semester of 2023.

This event was organized by the Student Support Center and the Leadership Group Sookmyung Ombudsman Bloom to cheer on Sookmyung University students, particularly the freshmen in the class of 2023 who are just beginning their academic lives.

Newcomers have gathered in person for the first time in four years since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic, from which they had to suffer during three years of their high school life, made freshmen even more desperate for university life.

One of the participants, Kim Hee-yeon (Department of History and Culture, Age 23) said, “Coming to the campus on the first day of the semester, I can really feel that I have become a university student now. I'm going to take on as many new challenges as possible as a university student, such as the student council and student clubs.”

More than 300 students actively participated in the event that took place on a clear day. Before and after classes, students went to the Queen Sunheon Building Square and posed for photos with the Snowflake character in different settings.

A representative of the Student Support Center said, “Through this event, we hope that students will have fond memories of their first day of university life.”

Along with representatives of the Academic Affairs Committee, President Jang Yun-keum and Vice President Park Jong-sung of Sookmyung Women's University came out and posed for pictures with the students. Students who took photos with President Jang received a snowflake figurine key ring.

“I'm already taking a liking to the Snowflake because it's on every notification I received since I got accepted. I hope the classes start soon, and I'm going to explore all of the famous restaurants near the campus,” said student Kim Joo-mi (Department of Visual & Media Design, Age 23).
