On December 22nd (Tuesday), Sookmyung Women’s University held the inauguration ceremony of “SM-Bridge,” which is a mentoring program where alumni who are active in various fields of society participate as mentors. The inauguration ceremony hosted by Career Development’s Career Design Center was held in real-time and non-face-to-face using ZOOM, an online video platform.

Following the congratulatory remarks by President Yunkeum Chang and the Dean of Career Development Ju-Hyeon Kang, the alumni mentors had time to share their motives for participation and their future resolution. Alumni Hyo-jin Gong, who is an employee of AMOREPACIFIC and participated as a mentor, said, “I am happy to participate in the program for students as a mentor,” and “I will provide my sincere advice to my students for their successful social advancement.”

SM-Bridge is an online mentoring program provided by currently active alumni. It is a mentoring program about employment and careers that connects active alumni in the industrial field through a network so that Sookmyungians can grow into female leaders in our society after graduation. According to the slogan “언니들이 도와줄게,” more than 100 experts in each field will provide practical advice for employment in the form of 1:1 online counseling to seniors who are to enter the job market right away.

Considering that face-to-face communication is difficult in the COVID-19 era, Sookmyung Women’s University’s student career development system (SNOWAY) was equipped with an online counseling system, and students who are proficient in using digital devices were able to ask questions anytime, anywhere, and alumni in the field provided immediate feedback. It is different from existing mentoring programs in that the entire mentoring process is performed in a non-face-to-face manner.

SM-Bridge is to continue its activities in the future starting with the inauguration ceremony on this day. SM-Bridge Mentoring will expand its scope from the spring semester of 2021 to help not only current students to develop their careers but by also having high-ranking managers with more than 10 years of experience coach lower mentors with less than 10 years of experience in order to help the graduates advance their careers.

President Yunkeum Chang said, “I hope that the alumni who are currently showing great competencies in their field will serve as the great shepherds for our future graduates in the society.”
