President Yunkeum Chang makes a keynote speech for the 2021 Asia and the Pacific Virtual Gender Forum

Yunkeum Chang, president of Sookmyung Women’s University, attended the 2021 Asia and the Pacific Virtual Gender Forum as a keynote speaker on Monday, November 22nd.

 

 

The 2021 Asia and the Pacific Virtual Gender Forum was hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and was held under the theme of ‘The Power to Transform: Gender Equality in Asia and the Pacific’. Through the keynote speech, President Chang stressed that during the pandemic women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region are in crisis and emphasized the need for digital innovation as a way to improve access to education for disadvantaged people.

 

Also, she shared various innovation achievements of Sookmyung Women's University to build a digital innovation university while emphasizing the need for humanity-based digital competency, introducing various efforts and activities to strengthen women's competency in communication technology for women.


 

Not only Sookmyung Women’s University, but women leaders from various countries from Indonesia, the UK, and Singapore, participated in the forum to share activities that can enhance women's leadership in technology through innovation in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET.)


 

Dr. Wirastuti Widyatmanti of Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia, a cooperative university for the Sookmyung UNESCO-UNITWIN project conducted by the APWINC (Asian Pacific Women’s Information Network Center) and the student who participated in the UNITWIN program, attended the forum as a debater to discuss the effectiveness of the project and the importance of strengthening women's capabilities.

Sookmyung Women’s University’s Asian Pacific Women’s Information Network Center (APWINC) was established in 1996 and contributed to the selection of Sookmyung Women’s University as a host of UNESCO-UNITWIN in 2015. The APWINC has been actively carrying out activities that aim to "improve women's capabilities through ICT and leadership education." It also further contributes to strengthening women's capabilities by promoting a number of international development cooperation projects with institutions such as the United Nations Development Plan (UNDP), ASEAN, and KOICA.
