This admission ceremony that was held with the catch phrase “Sookmyung, a new start of my life!” was prepared to welcome the new students starting their promising college life and their families to the family of Sookmyung and to boost their spirit of passion and challenge.

With a total of 3 parts, the admission ceremony progressed in the order of welcoming message from the President of Sookmyung Educational Foundation Lee Seung-han and President Kang Jungai, congratulatory message by Alumni President Jeong Soon-ok, pledge by the new student representative, hoisting of the school symbol, and a congratulatory concert. At the end of the event, a grand scene unfolded as more than 2,000 paper planes containing the new students’ dreams and pledges of college life filled the air at the same time.

In particular, in celebration of our university’s 111the anniversary and 120th anniversary of the proclamation of the Korean Empire this year, our university conducted a donation campaign called “Big Walk,” which is an innovative social project selected by the Seoul City that utilizes a mobile platform. The campaign was conducted at the admission ceremony with the aims to strengthen our school’s social responsibility. “Big Walk” is a social contribution application that enables donations to needy neighbors by converting donation points, accumulated in proportion to the walking distance, into money.

Our university plans to donate the money gathered through the footsteps of our students for providing dinner to needy high school students by cooperating with the Yongsan Welfare Foundation. It has been reported that many enterprises in the Yongsan-gu region have already shown interest in sponsoring our university’s donation campaign.

President Jungai Kang said, “Through the meaningful program that enables donation participation by simply walking, the students can strengthen their bodies and naturally learn the spirit of Sookmyung that works toward mutual benefit of our community.”

On the other hand, our university has discontinued the new student welcoming event that was held outside our campus for two days. Instead, orientations that introduce the departments and majors per college on campus and visit the Sookmyung Heritage Hall were conducted starting this year. The school officials said, “We expect this change can prevent accidents caused by drinking and provide an opportunity of healthy unity among younger and old.
