College of Global Convergence holds overseas speaker invitation lecture on "Global Value and Future of K-Culture"

On September 12 (Thursday), an overseas speaker invitation lecture was held on the theme of the global value and future of K-Culture at the Samsung Convention Center in the Centennial Memorial Hall on campus.
This lecture, hosted by the College of Global Convergence, which operates exclusively for international students, is the first international lecture held since President Moon Si-yeon's inauguration, who declared the university as a global university centered on the Korean Wave. Professor Oh In-gyu from Kansai Gaidai University in Japan and Professor Pascal Brassier from Clermont Auvergne University in France appeared as speakers.
First, Professor Oh gave a lecture on the topic of Hallyu fandom. Professor Oh explained that the Hallyu fandom consists of women with diverse backgrounds such as age and nationality, and that a new way of thinking called "female universalism" binds them together. He emphasized that this provides ideological weapons for female Hallyu fans to fight against gender discrimination and male dominance.
Additionally, Professor Oh explained that while Hallyu can sometimes make the lives of women who experience various levels of gender discrimination tragic depending on geopolitical and historical backgrounds, it can also help them realize their dreams.
Professor Pascal Brassier
Next, Professor Pascal Brassier introduced the unique structure of K-pop fan communities. According to Professor Brassier's research, unlike general fandoms, these communities actively interact and share information extensively, which is their main characteristic.
He predicted that through K-pop communities with these characteristics, ideologies such as female universalism would spread globally, and women would strongly unite for various social issues.
Our university stated, "This lecture is significant in that it presented a new model where the Korean Wave and K-pop fandom can lead social change beyond being a simple cultural phenomenon," and added, "We will continue to invite various overseas speakers to provide opportunities for members to broaden their international perspectives."
