Sookmyung Women’s University President Moon Si-yeun met with senior officials from major U.S. universities to discuss ways to revitalize international exchanges. The goal is to further enhance global competitiveness through educational cooperation that integrates ‘Hallyu’ (Korean culture), a major strength of Sookmyung.
On the morning of Mon, Feb. 10 (local time), President Moon visited the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a private art school associated with the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), one of the top three art museums in the U.S. SAIC is one of the leading art universities in the country and is ranked among the top 10 art universities in the world.
Sookmyung President Moon met with SAIC President Isbara and Student Affairs Director Cheeyon Cha in the Office of the President overlooking downtown Chicago to discuss in depth ways to promote student exchanges in the fields of art and fashion design. President Isbara, who is scheduled to visit Sookmyung in March, expressed great interest in Sookmyung’s cultural assets, including the Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum and the Moonshin Museum.
Later in the day, President Moon met with Northwestern University Vice President for International Relations Deborah Greenspan, to explore opportunities for Sookmyung students to participate in Northwestern’s summer program.
Established in 1851, Northwestern University is a highly regarded institution, ranked sixth in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report University Rankings. Its Kellogg School of Management is also recognized as one of the world’s leading business schools.
On the afternoon of Tue, Feb. 11, President Moon visited Stanford University, one of the world’s most prestigious institutions.
Under a short-term program agreement established in 2007, Sookmyung students can participate in Stanford’s summer program and earn up to six academic credits. During the visit, President Moon met with Associate Dean Danielle Wood, who oversees the summer program, to propose the involvement of Sookmyung faculty in lectures on Hallyu-related topics and to explore further discussions.
President Moon remarked, “This visit to U.S. universities provided an opportunity to highlight Sookmyung’s strengths in Korean studies and Hallyu-related education while enhancing its internationalization efforts as a strategic advantage.”
