Our university is launching the nation’s first graduate program specializing in Climate and Environmental Communication and will begin recruiting students for the Fall 2025 semester. This marks the first time such a master’s program has been established in Korea.
The Graduate School of Climate and Environmental Convergence is introducing this new specialization as the third track, following the existing majors in Climate and Environment and Environmental Economics. The aim of the Climate and Environmental Communication major is to cultivate communication experts who can effectively convey accurate information about climate change within social and economic contexts.
The program is open to a wide range of professionals, including journalists interested in climate and environmental reporting, as well as:
Journalists in the industrial, economic, and financial sectors
Communication officers and campaigners at environmental and civic organizations
Corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) managers and public relations officers
Courses in the program include:
‘Seminar on Energy Transition’,
‘Climate Change, Media, and Society’,
‘Climate Change Reporting’,
‘ESG Strategy and Public Relations’,
‘Carbon Neutrality and Energy Transition’
Applications will be accepted from Thursday, April 24 to Wednesday, May 7, and are open to both men and women. Final admissions decisions will be made based on a two-step process: document screening and an interview. A merit-based scholarship of up to 50% will be awarded to select enrolled students who are currently working journalists.
Information sessions will be held online on Wednesday, April 16 and Monday, April 21. Interested applicants can register in advance.
A representative from the Department of Climate and Environmental Convergence stated, “As the climate crisis intensifies, the role of climate and environmental communication in shaping public opinion and influencing policy decisions is becoming increasingly critical. This program will train experts who can lead in various fields such as media, public institutions, and corporations.”
