The closing ceremony for the 2025 Future Leaders Camp (FLC) was held on September 5 in Room 203 (Moon Joo-hyun Lecture Hall) of the Prime Building at Sookmyung Women’s University.
The event was attended by President Moon Si-yeun, Vice President Wee Kyung-woo, Dean of Student Affairs Jung Hye-young, Dean of External Affairs Lee Hyung-jin, and Marguerite Bickel, French Language and Education Cooperation Officer at the Embassy of France in Korea, and two faculty leaders Prof. Daussy Ida Noelle Daniel and Prof. Jeon Ji-hye from the Dept. of French Language & Culture, who guided the camp participants. Together, they gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements and encourage their future growth.
The Future Leaders Camp is a newly launched initiative within the university’s Global Exploration Program, made possible by the generous support of Chairman Moon Joo-hyun of the MDM Group. This year’s inaugural program attracted 109 applicants, from whom 30 students were selected through a competitive screening and interview process.
The camp took place from June 21 to 29 at the University of Le Havre in Normandy, France, which served as the program’s base. Under the theme of “Understanding the French Cultural Industry,” students participated in a range of activities including seminars, institutional visits, and cultural excursions. During the closing ceremony, students presented their group projects, sharing their insights into the growth of French industries and integrated approaches to regional development, gained through hands-on experiences abroad.
Yoo Tae-yeon (Class of ’24, Dept. of Environmental Design) reflected, “This program brought together students from various majors, giving us the chance to learn from and respect one another. It was an experience that helped me grow into a future leader with the gentle power to change the world.”
President Moon Si-yeun emphasized the importance of global exposure, stating, “Studying abroad during college years is a formative experience that can inspire future women leaders to become agents of change. I hope we can continue to send as many students overseas as possible, so they can share their experiences, take on challenges together, and pioneer new paths during their time at Sookmyung.”
