The Entrepreneurship Engagement Office held the two-day seminar “Intellectual Property 2025: Perspectives of the New Generation” together with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Teikyo University from October 24 (Fri). This year’s event expanded last year’s Sookmyung Women’s University–JETRO seminar into an international program, laying important groundwork for Korea–Japan cooperation in entrepreneurship and intellectual property with support from the Japan Patent Office.
On the first day, students from Sookmyung Women’s University and Teikyo University presented their startup ideas at the Kim & Chang Crescendo Building conference hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul. A total of 12 teams—three from each university in the two categories of intellectual property and business model—competed. Evaluations focused on the concreteness of each proposal, market potential, and IP strategies.

Prof. Han Yoo-jin of Sookmyung Women’s University and Prof. Kimura of Teikyo University provided expert feedback to help students grow into global entrepreneurs. In addition, patent attorney Jung Ji-woo of Kim & Chang delivered a special lecture titled “Corporate Brand Strategy and IP.”
On the second day, Ahn Young-no, executive director of Galaxy Corporation—the agency representing singer G-Dragon—gave a lecture titled “Understanding K-Content” at Sookmyung Women’s University’s Startup Incubation Center. After the lecture, students joined a networking program where they exchanged cultural experiences and professional insights.

Prof. Ha Yoon-su of the Entrepreneurship Engagement Office said, “Building on last year’s independent seminar, we succeeded in fostering international cooperation with the Japan Patent Office and Teikyo University,” adding, “Next year, we will expand the program to include more universities from both countries and continue to support students so they can develop into globally competent entrepreneurs with strong intellectual property capabilities.”
