Sookmyung Women’s University invited 50 Thai students through the Thai government–affiliated Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA)’s talent development initiative, ‘the One District, One Scholarship’ (ODOS) program, and operated a six-week advanced IT education course. Launched for the first time this year, the ODOS program was held at Sookmyung Women’s University campus from October 15 (Wed) to November 22 (Sat), drawing attention as a platform for nurturing global talent that integrates education, culture, and service.
The ODOS program is a national scholarship initiative that provides Thai students with educational opportunities and financial support. Sookmyung was selected as Korea’s representative host institution and participated as a partner alongside prestigious universities from 12 countries worldwide.

At Sookmyung, the Thai students attended lectures and hands-on sessions led by on- and off-campus experts in IT fields, including robotics and automation, AI and machine learning, blockchain and fintech, cybersecurity, 5G and smart city development, and e-sports. They also spent meaningful time deepening their understanding of Korean culture and the Korean Wave through activities such as visits to the DMZ, experiences at Lotte World, and attending a Nanta performance.
In addition, the students toured a range of organizations, including LG Science Park, Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang, the Seoul AI Foundation, the Samsung Innovation Museum, and SBS. By offering on-site programs that showcase Korea’s advanced IT technologies, SMWU further enhanced the students’ motivation to learn.

The Thai students also practiced a spirit of global service by participating in the “Kimchi Festival—Sookmyung Love Kimjang Sharing Volunteer Activity.” Pornboonya Supha Apiradeephet remarked, “Throughout my time at Sookmyung, I could feel the meticulous effort and consideration in every aspect,” adding, “Through the IT-related courses, I learned about new technologies and the future, and I personally experienced how meaningful it is to step outside a comfortable environment to take on new challenges—and how much one can learn in the process.”

At the completion ceremony held on November 22 (Fri), all participants received certificates, successfully concluding the program. Dean of International Affairs Chun Seh-jae said, “I hope this program serves as an opportunity for a new leap forward for the students,” adding, “Through the ODOS program, we were able to create a venue for cultivating global talent where advanced IT education, cultural experiences, and volunteer activities are harmoniously integrated. We will continue to lead in international exchange and educational innovation.”
