Moon Si-yeun, President of Sookmyung Women’s University, Elected New Chair of the Korea–France Association

Moon Si-yeun, President of Sookmyung Women’s University (and professor in the Dept. of French Language & Culture), has been elected as the new chair of the Korea–France Association. With the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France approaching next year, President Moon is expected to play an even greater role in strengthening people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries, drawing on her deep understanding of France and extensive experience in international exchange.
President Moon is a recipient of France’s Order of Arts and Letters (Officier) and the Order of Academic Palms (Chevalier). She graduated from the Dept. of French Language & Literature at Sookmyung Women’s University in 1988 and earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees from Université Paris III – Sorbonne Nouvelle. She has served as a professor in the Dept. of French Language & Culture at Sookmyung since 1997 and assumed the presidency of Sookmyung Women’s University in September 2024.
Since 2018, President Moon has served as a board member of the Korea–France Association, contributing to the expansion of exchange platforms between the two countries. She has also taken on leadership roles in numerous academic organizations, including serving as president of the French Culture and Arts Association, and as an officer in the French Studies Association, the Korean Society of French Studies, and the Korean Association of French Language and Literature, leading efforts to build academic networks. In addition, she has contributed to the organization of bilateral exchange events such as the Korea–France Cultural Policy Forum, the Korea–France Forum, and the Korea–France Junior Forum.
