Sookmyung Women’s University successfully concluded its two-day official visit to Mongolia, which took place from December 9 (Tue).
On the morning of December 10, Sookmyung signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on student and academic exchange with the Mongolian University of Life Sciences in Ulaanbaatar. Through this agreement, the two universities agreed to share their specialized research capabilities in fields such as biotechnology and agricultural technology, and to work together to cultivate the next generation of talent in related disciplines.
This agreement has drawn attention for expanding the scope of international cooperation beyond the humanities and social sciences–focused partnerships signed the previous day, extending collaboration into the fields of life sciences and agriculture. The visit to Mongolia was a strategic move that reflects the growing presence and exchange of Mongolian students on the Sookmyung campus.

The number of Mongolian international students at Sookmyung has been rising sharply in recent years. The enrolled Mongolian student population increased by approximately 8.8 times, from 14 in 2024 (4 undergraduates, 4 graduate students, and 6 language institute students) to 123 in 2025 (66 undergraduates, 6 graduate students, and 51 language institute students).
This upward trend is expected to accelerate further. The university projects that the number of Mongolian international students will reach 175 by March 2026. In particular, the number of undergraduate students is expected to grow from 4 in 2024 to 120, positioning Sookmyung as a rapidly emerging hub for nurturing Mongolia’s next generation of women leaders.
Having already signed agreements with four Mongolian universities and operated exchange student programs, Sookmyung significantly expanded the scope of its partnerships to include top-tier Mongolian institutions through this visit. The university is strengthening tailored support programs for Mongolian students and providing career guidance to help them serve as bridges between the two countries after graduation.
President Moon Si-yeun stated, “This visit has become a turning point for comprehensively expanding exchanges into specialized fields, including life sciences,” adding, “We will continue to enhance support so that Mongolia’s next generation of key talent can develop their capabilities at Sookmyung Women’s University and grow into global leaders who connect the knowledge and industrial ecosystems of both countries.”
