Celebrating its 120th anniversary, the campus of Sookmyung Women’s University was filled with the vibrant cultures of five different countries.

On Wednesday, May 13, the International Student Services Team at the university hosted the global cultural experience event “One World, One Sookmyung” at the Global Lounge in the Centennial Hall.

Students from five countries—Korea, Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam—operated booths introducing their traditional cultures. The two-hour event, held from 3 p.m., attracted approximately 170 students.

Each booth offered its own unique atmosphere and activities. At the Korean booth, participants could wear costumes inspired by the “Saja Boys” from K-Pop Demon Hunters and take photos using a film camera. The Mongolian booth featured the traditional game Shagai, played with animal bones, as well as an activity where participants could write their names in traditional Mongolian calligraphy.

At the Chinese booth, students created custom milk tea inspired by the recently popular milk tea brand Chagee (Bawang Chaji). The Uzbekistan booth offered quiz challenges and traditional snack tastings. At the Vietnamese booth, participants sampled G7 coffee and salted coffee, and played a balancing game using the traditional dragonfly-shaped toy known as Chuon Chuon.

Participants collected stamps after completing activities at each booth, and students who filled all their stamps received commemorative gifts. One student who attended the event commented, “It was meaningful to experience the cultures of various countries right here on campus, and it gave me an opportunity to better understand different cultures.”

The International Student Services Team stated, “As the name ‘One World, One Sookmyung’ suggests, we wanted to provide an experience where different cultures come together as one,” adding, “We plan to continue creating an internationalized campus environment through a variety of global programs.”
