[Reminder Notice] Guideline on Leave of/Return from Absence for 2020-Semester 1

Applications and period for leave of/return from absence for undergraduates in the 1st Semester of 2020 is as follows.

 

 

1. Application for return from absence(including early-returns)  

 

Application Period

How to apply

2/3(Mon.) 10:00 ~ 3/21(Sat.)

Login in to the Sookmyung Portal System>Academics> Student Register> Apply for return from absence

 

    A. Subject of application: Student who’s period of leave of absence has expired or wish to make an early return.

    B. Notice: Course registration and tuition payment can be done once application for return from absence is complete

       2020-1st Semester Course Registration for undergraduates: 2/14(Fri.) 08:00 ~ 2/18(Tue.) 17:00

       What is an ‘early return’ from absence? : Returning to school just after 6 months even though the student originally applied for a 1 year of leave from school.

 

2. Application for leave of absence(Extending the leave of absence included)

Those that cannot apply for a leave of absence Student who has spent less than 1 year after entering school(Those who started school in 2020) 1st semester students who transferred/readmitted Students who has used up all their leave of absence periods

 

  A. Subject of application: Those who wish to apply for a leave of absence for 2020-1st Semester (Including students who wish to extend their leave of absence

  B. Cases where freshman and transfer/readmission students’ leave of absence is possible during a non-appliable period of leave of absence

     Student who is incapable of taking a class for a long-term due to an illness or accident (Confirmed patients of COVID-19 included)
     International students who have not satisfied the school’s set criteria for Korean language standards and want to apply for a leave of absence
     A leave of absence of due to pregnancy·childbirth·child-care  
     A leave of absence due to joining of the army(newly added amendment)
     A student who was admitted into school as a specialized high school graduate, holding a working position and cannot take class(ex.working overseas and etc)    

  C. Period of leave of absence in which you can choose when applying

      - General leave, pregnancy·childbirth·child-care leave, business start-up leave of absence: 6months(1 semester) or 1 year(2 semesters)

      - Leave due to army enlistment(Newly added amendment): Possible to apply without period restrictions(appliable 1 time while in school for a maximum of 3 years)

  D. The maximum period of leave of absence while in school

    Pregnancy·Childbirth·Child-care Leave, Business start-up Leave, and Army Enlistment Leave can be applied/used apart from the general leave of absence that a student can used for the maximum of 3 years

   Leave of absence due to confirmation of COVID-19 does not count as a general leave.

 Freshman(Entered in 2020), transferred/readmitted student who is incapable of taking class and wish to apply for a leave must additionally submit a diagnosis from a high-level general hospital proving that one needs more than ‘4 weeks’ of treatment

·Leave of absence is not confirmed immediately after applying(Result of your applications are informed after deliberation)

·Applications can be done only during the appointed period

·It is not possible to apply for a leave that is disregarded as a field of business(Attached file #4) that the Ministry of education permits to take a leave of absence for a business start-up

  F. Take Note  

    1) Student on a leave of absence cannot graduate even though one has satisfied all criteria for graduation standards

    2) After applying for a leave of absence, students must check the result on the Sookmyung Portal System. Students will be taken responsible for the problems which might occur for not checking one’s result

    3) After your period for one’s leave of absence has expired and have not applied for [return from absence] or [extension of leave], you will be ‘expelled

    4) Based on amendment #11(scholarship withdrawal) of regulations regarding scholarships, scholarship received in the semester of your leave of absence will be withdrawn by the school

    5) When taking a leave of absence, the already paid tuition cannot be carried forward to the next semester or deposited

    6) When taking a leave of absence, those who have not yet paid the tuition fee will have to pay the deduction of tuition, according to the refund standards on tuition fee in order to take a leave of absence

    7) When taking a leave of absence, those who have paid their tuition will receive back their tuition without the deduction amount according to the refund standards on tuition fee

Cancellation on your leave of/return from absence is not possible so please carefully consider your decision.

 Leave of/return from absence for graduate students are to be inquired to the academic affairs office for graduates.
